In 2000, the university launched The Campaign for the University of Kentucky`s “Top 20” plan, a $600 million fundraiser that was used to “improve institutions, university programs, public services and scholarships.”  This goal was met and the effort was increased to $1 billion. In March 2007, $1.022 billion was raised, months before the end of the fundraiser.  In 1892, the official colours of the university, royal blue and white, were adopted. An old color scheme, blue and light yellow, was adopted at a football game at Kentucky-Centre College on December 19, 1891.  The special blue was determined from a tie used to demonstrate the color of royal blue.  The value of donations, gifts (in kind, material or cash benefits), grants, resources or other financial considerations addressed to a single university to support the BCHE is managed and accounted for in accordance with the guidelines of the recipient university. The university boasts numerous national championships, with its last coming in 2012, when the men`s basketball team won its eighth national title. Great Britain also has a national cross-country team championship (women,1988), eight individual gymnastics championships, an Olympic track and field champion and 21 national cheerleading championships. (No NCAA Championship)  After the 13-7 sugar Bowl loss under legendary coach Bear Bryant, Kentucky was also co-national champion of the 1950 season.
The University of Kentucky has fifteen libraries on campus. The largest is the William T. Young Library, a federal repository that houses subjects related to the social, human and life sciences. Since 1997, the university has increasingly focused on research, according to a pact established by the Kentucky General Assembly. The directive called for the university to become, by 2020, a public research body of the top 20 with regard to an overall ranking to be established by the university itself. In 1930, Adolph Rupp, then a high school coach, was hired as a college basketball coach. He had a career that was to cover 42 years until 1972. During his tenure, he led the men`s basketball team to four NCAA championships in 1948, 1949, 1951 and 1958.
 The Wildcats won the fifth championship in 1978 under Joe B. Hall, in 1996 under Rick Pitino and Orlando in 1998 under “Tubby Smith”. In 2007, the University of Kentucky named Billy Gillispie as head coach of the men`s basketball team, and on March 30, 2009, the University named John Calipari head coach of the Wildcats. Calipari coached the team for the eighth national title in 2012. Nine years after the creation of the Northern Extension Center in Covington as a representative of the Ashland Independent School Board of Education, Ashland`s lawyer, Henderson Dysard, and the founder and CEO of the Ashland Oil and Refining Company, Paul G. Blazer, President Dickey and the University of Kentucky Board of Directors have submitted a proposal for the university to resume the activities and curriculum of Ashland [Municipal Junior College]. established the Ashland Center at the University of Kentucky in 1957.  This followed the University of Kentucky Extension Centers at Fort Knox (1958), Cumberland (1960) and Henderson (1960).
